Account history in Online Banking is in chronological order. However, returned items are posted with an effective date on them.
For example the original check was deposited on 3/10. On 3/13 the bank returned the item and issued a fee. This item, while posted on 3/13, has an effective date of 3/11. Because of this, it will show up in account history as 3/11.
You need to look further back in account history to the original date of the item that was returned and you should see any returns near that date.
